TIMES BALI, BALI – Liberta Hotels International has announced a series of environmental and community-based programs under its ongoing #CheckInforChange campaign, reaffirming the group’s commitment to linking hospitality with measurable ecological and social impact.
The activities, taking place across multiple destinations in Indonesia, build on earlier initiatives such as city clean-ups, plastic waste workshops, and zero-waste management efforts.
Upcoming Activities Across Indonesia
• Sea Turtle Release, Lovina Beach, Bali — August 2025
Guests and community partners will take part in releasing hatchlings into the wild to support marine biodiversity and reduce threats to endangered turtle populations.
• Mangrove Planting, Pulau Pudut, Tanjung Benoa, Bali — September 2, 2025
Liberta Hotel Seminyak and Liberta Hotel Jimbaran will jointly plant mangroves to restore coastal ecosystems that serve as both natural flood protection and critical nurseries for marine species.
• Beach Pine Tree Planting & Sea Turtle Release, Kebumen Beach, Central Java — September 2025
Activities will include planting beach pine trees to protect shorelines from erosion and releasing sea turtles in collaboration with local conservation groups.
These initiatives follow earlier projects carried out in Yogyakarta and Kebumen, including urban clean-ups, plastic waste workshops, and the introduction of zero-waste garbage management using maggot composting in partnership with a local TPS at Mexolie Hotel Kebumen.
Environmental and Economic Impact
The programs are rooted in data-driven priorities. According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the country is home to six of the world’s seven species of sea turtles, all of which face population decline due to habitat loss, pollution, and poaching.
Release efforts help improve survival rates during the most vulnerable life stages.
Mangroves, meanwhile, are recognized as one of the most effective nature-based solutions for climate resilience. They can reduce wave energy by up to 66% within the first 100 meters of forest and store up to four times more carbon per hectare than tropical rainforests (UNEP, 2021).
Economically, restored mangroves enhance fishery productivity, which directly benefits coastal households that rely on fishing as a primary source of income.
Tree planting initiatives in coastal zones, such as beach pine programs, also help stabilize sandy soils, reduce erosion, and contribute to long-term shoreline protection. These interventions not only safeguard ecosystems but also reduce the cost of disaster recovery for local communities.
A Continuing Program of Engagement
Liberta Hotels International frames #CheckInforChange as an ongoing campaign rather than one-off events. The aim is to involve both guests and staff in activities that support environmental resilience and social well-being in the communities where Liberta operates.
“Hospitality does not end at our doors,” said Yayat, The Director of Sales & Marketing for Liberta Hotel International.
“Our role extends to the communities and environments that sustain us. Through programs such as mangrove planting, turtle releases, and waste management initiatives, we want to ensure that the presence of our hotels generates benefits that last well beyond a guest’s stay," he added.
The campaign underscores the growing role of the hospitality sector in sustainability and community development, with initiatives designed to align guest experiences with broader conservation goals during their stay at Liberta Hotels International. (*)
